The photograph was taken about 1892, probably in Pittsburgh. The four daughters of Charles Edward Miller and Annie Maria Bayley are Nina, Lucy Gertrude, Ethel Maude and Constance Emily. Nina was born in Leytonstone, in north London, England, and the three other sisters were born in Birtle, Manitoba, Canada. Lucy Gertrude is the paternal grandmother of the author, Anne Healy Field.
