Ethel Maude Miller was the daughter of Charles Edward and Annie Bayley Miller and the wife of Arthur Franklin Boyd. She was born in a log cabin in Birtle, Manitoba, Canada, the fifth child in the family. In the mid-1890s, after the family had moved to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Ethel was badly burned, spent a year in a hospital in Pittsburgh and then went to England with her father for more advanced surgery. The rest of the family followed and remained in England for about ten years before moving to Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Ethel married Arthur Franklin Boyd in Cheyenne. Arthur worked for various oil companies and the family moved often, mostly living in Texas. Ethel and Arthur had three children. Arthur died in 1953 and Ethel in 1982 in Beaumont, Texas. They are buried in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Beaumont.

The obituary appeared in the Beaumont Journal, Beaumont, Texas, Wednesday, 13 January 1982, p.4D. The photo of Ethel was taken in 1981 at the home of her niece, Hope Healy Koontz in San Diego.
