The farm and summer home of the F.C. Brent Family

The summer home at Brentwood

Francis Celestino "F.C." Brent owned property north of downtown Pensacola which was known as Brentwood. Various sources give the size of the property as 840 acres. Brentwood was a working farm as well as the summer home of the Brent family. Brentwood was about five miles north of their home in Pensacola on Romana Street. The Brentwood property was in the area now known as Brent or Brentwood. Brent Lane now runs between Palafox St. and Springfield Drive in Pensacola. On the West Brent Lane becomes Beverly Parkway and on the East, Bayou Boulevard.

The Brent family in front of the Brentwood house. F.C. Brent is standing on the left. Daniel Gonzalez Brent is sitting at the foot of the porch steps, wearing black. The lady sitting on his right and also sitting by the porch steps, wearing black, is possibly Merced Gonzalez Brent, F.C. and Daniel's mother, wife of Thomas William Brent. Photo taken about 1887.

The Brent family and others on the porch of the Brentwood house. Mary Ella Shuttleworth Brent is sitting on the left at the top of the porch steps. Belle Brent, the oldest child, is sitting out front on the left in a chair. Thomas Brent, the oldest son, is standing in front of younger siblings. Photo taken about 1885.

The Brent family playing croquet in the yard at Brentwood. Mary Ella Brent is sitting in front of the buggy and her husband, F.C. Brent, is standing beside her. Sitting beneath the tree, in a black dress is Merced Gonzalez Brent, Papa Brent's mother. Playing croquet: Isabelle Eugenia "Belle" Brent, left, Mary Ella "Mollie" Brent, center, and Catherine Merced Brent. These were the three oldest daughters. Sitting watching is Celestine Angela; on the horse is Thomas William, the oldest son; sitting on the cart is Francis Celestino "Tino" and next to him is possible Daniel Gonzalez "Danny" Brent, F.C. Brent's brother. The baby being held by the lady between the two horses is probably Daniel Carroll Brent who was born in July 1884. The photo was probably taken not long after his birth. He died in January 1886, the only child in the family who did not live to adulthood.
