William Ashcroft and Hannah Smith Jones




Marriage record of William Ashcroft, son of Joshua and Esther Ashcroft, and Hannah Smith Jones, 27 June 1826 at St. John's Church in Manchester, Lancashire. William's occupation is Officer of Excise (a tax man). Hannah Jones is a widow. It is not known to whom she was previously married, but when her son John was born the year before, she was single and named Hannah Smith. St. John's Church, which was on Byrom St., was demolished about 1931 and St. John's Gardens now occupies the site. 20,000 people are buried beneath the Gardens, former St. John's parishioners.
