Record of Marriage
Elmira Peirce and William Rearden, 1820

Elmira Peirce and William Rearden were married 25 June 1820 in White County, Illinois. Elmira was the fourth of ten children of Jarvis Peirce Sr. and Rhoda Darby. Originally from Massachusetts, her family had moved west to Illinois by 1818.

William Rearden's parents are unknown but he was born in Woodford County, Kentucky in 1793, about ten years before Elmira. Together they had eight children, all born in Illinois. William died in 1846 in Grayville in White County, so the couple most likely lived their whole married life in White County. William is buried in Grayville Cemetery in White County. There is a Gray Family Cemetery in Grayville and an Oak Grove Cemetery, but no Grayville Cemetery. A descendant has taken a photo of his two tombstones (one had been vandalized) so we know that he was buried there. Elmira was still alive in the 1860 census in Grayville but it is not known when or where she died nor where she was buried. One photo of her gives a death date of 1875.
