07/10/2004 Charles R. Phillips Sr., age 72, of Toledo, died Thursday, July 8, 2004, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, December 30, 1931, to Zeph and Barbara (Faul) Phillips. Charles was a metal finisher with City Auto Stamping for 43 years before his retirement in 1991. He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening and working on cars. Charles was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 53 years, Wanda, three months ago; his son, Ronald Phillips, and his parents. He is survived by his children, Richard (Lanita) Phillips of Ft. Worth, TX, Naomi (Mike) Sparks of Oregon, OH, Charles (Monica) Phillips Jr. of Toledo, OH, and Barb (Brian) Bechtel of Millbury, OH; 9 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; sisters and other relatives, friends and neighbors. Friends may call at the H.H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Rd. (at Alexis) on Sunday, July 11, 2004, from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. where funeral services will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. Interment Historic Woodlawn Cemetery, Toledo, Ohio.

03/29/2004 Wanda L. Phillips, age 69, of Toledo, died on Friday, March 26, 2004, at The Toledo Hospital. She was born on Sunday, February 3, 1935, in Toledo to William and Mary (Hudson) King. Wanda was devoted not to just her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but to her neighborhood children as well. She enjoyed cooking and helping others in need. Wanda was preceded in death by her son, Ronald L. Phillips. She is survived by her beloved husband and best friend of 53 years, Charles Phillips; children, Richard (Lanita) Phillips of Ft. Worth, TX, Naomi (Mike) Sparks of Oregon, OH, Charles (Monica) Phillips Jr. of Toledo, OH, and Barb (Brian) Bechtel of Millbury, OH; 9 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, sister, brothers and other relatives, friends and neighbors. Friends may call at the H.H. Birkenkamp Funeral Home, 3219 Tremainsville Road (at Alexis Rd.) 2-8 p.m. Tuesday, March 30, 2004, where services will be held on Wednesday, March 31, 2004, at 1 p.m. Interment, Historical Woodlawn Cemetery, Toledo, OH.

Charles R. Phillips was the second son and sixth child of Zephaniah Phillips and Barbara Viola Faul, and the great grandson of Captain Zephaniah Phillips, 1837-1903. Charles and Wanda both died in 2004 in Toledo, Ohio, and are buried there in the Woodlawn Cemetery.
